SAN DIEGO, Calif. – National University Academy, a tuition-free, K-12 public charter school open to 9th through 12th graders in San Diego County, has extended educational access to hundreds of students and teachers from the Career Paths program at Eagles Peak Charter School, Dr. Jerry C. Lee, Chancellor of the National University System, announced today.
National University Academy, which is chartered by the Lakeside Union School District, is part of the Division of Pre-College Programs under the National University System.
“By joining National University Academy, the students and teachers from the Career Paths program who would otherwise be disrupted at the end of the school year will now be provided with a stable academic environment for the duration of their high school program,” said Dr. Lee. “Welcoming the students from the Career Paths program is a natural extension of the Academy’s charter since both programs follow an independent study model. We are proud to welcome the students, teachers, and parents from the Career Paths program to National University Academy.”
In an effort to provide a secure learning environment which maintained the students’ academic continuity, several outreach efforts were made by Eagles Peak administrators to National University Academy to open its enrollment process. In a letter to the Academy, Eagles Peak interim Executive Director Dr. Art Townley stated “students and staff will benefit from the stability, status, and expertise of the National University System.”
With Dr. Townley’s endorsement, the Eagles Peak Board unanimously supported the Academy’s willingness to embrace the Career Paths students and staff. As a result, the Academy will provide the students with the ability to continue in their programs without a change of location and in most cases, without a change of teachers. The Career Paths students will begin their studies at National University Academy on February 9, 2009.
National University Academy opened in September 2008 and offers programs to 9th through 12th graders at several locations in San Diego County. Under its charter, National University Academy is able to serve San Diego and contiguous counties.
