La Jolla, Calif. – National University's endowment grew by almost 20 percent in 2004, and continues to rank among the top 200 largest college and university endowments in the nation, according to the National Association of College and University Business Officers' (NACUBO) 2004 survey of the nation's leading 741 college and university endowments.
Based upon assets of $213.137 million in Fiscal 2004, National University's endowment was listed by NACUBO as the 196th largest endowment in the United States, increasing in value by 19.6 percent from $178.27 million in Fiscal 2003. Over the past five years, National University endowment assets have increased by an average annual rate of 8.28 percent.
Among California's private colleges and universities, National University's endowment ranks among the top 10. Among San Diego area colleges and universities, National University's endowment is the largest. By comparison, the University of California at San Diego Foundation's endowment ranks 219th on NACUBO's 2004 survey, with assets of $184.18 million. The University of San Diego's endowment ranks 243rd in the nation, with assets of $157.11 million. San Diego State University and Foundation reported assets of $77.30 million for fiscal 2003, ranking 363rd nationally.
NACUBO's annual findings show positive performance results among college and university endowments in 2004, with the 741 ranked institutions reporting an annual average return rate of 15.1 percent. More than seven in ten college donors have positive impressions of endowments, according to a 2005 poll by the Goldman Sachs Global Markets Institute.
