National University to Launch Master of Healthcare Administration in Fresno in May

Fresno, Calif. – National University, the second-largest private, nonprofit institution of higher education in California and the 12th-largest in the nation, is launching a Master of Healthcare Administration program at its Fresno campus located at 20 E River Park Place West, Fresno, CA 93720. Classes for this new program begin May 7, 2012.

The Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) is a graduate professional degree designed to enhance the practice of healthcare administration and management by preparing students for entry level and middle management roles in healthcare organizations. Healthcare management involves the organization, financing, and delivery of services to prevent and treat illness and disease, including programs that serve the public and private sectors at the local, state, and federal levels.

“National University pays close attention to the ramifications of the unique people-dependent focus of the healthcare profession,” says Robert Clegg, School of Health and Human Services Program Development Coordinator for the Central Valley. “Our faculty members come from a variety of backgrounds but are united by a common commitment to solving problems and developing innovations related to the access, cost, and quality of healthcare.”

The MHA program emphasizes the conceptual and analytical skills required to understand and manage today’s healthcare organizations and prepare for tomorrow’s challenges, drawing upon the interconnected influence of a diversity of fields, such as management, economics, law, medicine, public health, planning, sociology, and statistics. The course of study features experiential opportunities in project management, teamwork, and leadership, and graduates will enhance their opportunities for professional growth and job placement through carefully planned internships and a capstone experience.

Ideal candidates for the MHA program are those students looking for:

  • Career advancement from middle to upper middle management;
  • Career transition into healthcare administration from other professions; and
  • Career transition from clinical/technical roles to management roles.
